I love the look I get when I use jumbo rollers in my hair. I get this beautiful hollywood hair with loose curls and bouncy ends. But no matter what I do, the style always "falls out" about 1/2 an hour later. I have tried different hairsprays, finishing sprays, setting sprays, mouses, gels, au natural... nothing works! I follow the advice of my hair stylist and try the advice in magazines but nothing works! How can I get my gorgeous locks to stay gorgeous???
How do I keep my hair style???
This may sound funny, but is your hair virgin hair or do you have some chemical in it? If it is virgin hair it is very, very strong, and the cuticle is very tight on it, the keratin protein is extremely strong, and this type of hair is very hard to curl and keep curled. If you have some color in it, it is technically a little "damaged" and therefore the cuticle won't be as tight and usually it will curl easier and hold better. If this is a look you really want to wear more often, you might want to consider doing some highlights/lowlights in your hair, just to "damage" it a bit. (I know...it sounds weird...hope you get what I mean!!)
Another thing to maybe try, we used to do this with little girls that would come in for weddings, and their hair won't hold nothing!!!! But this did work. Take clean, dry hair and spray it with Aquage Working Spray (this stuff is a work horse for people who really need some curl....I prefer to not use anything but this when I do prom and wedding do's....a close second would be Urban Potions Thermal Setting Spray.) You want to spray enough on so the hair feels slightly damp. Only spray on one section at a time that you are working with. Wind the hair in the curler. Repeat until all the hair is rolled. Mist the setting spray all over the set hair once again. Then set under a warm dryer (I know...the only drawback! Most people don't have the old hood dryers or poof dryers grandma used to use....BUT in case you do or grandma has one....nab it from her and use it!!) You could also try the same technique with jumbo hot rollers. I've used this technique with hot rollers and it works really well too. But key is, you HAVE to let the hair cool! If it is still warm when you take out the rollers, you'll lose some of your set! Go sit in front of a fan if you can!
I've seen it hold through a lot! Be sure to spray again with the Aquage Working Spray when you're all done and have your hair how you want it. Good luck! Hope this works for you!

How do I keep my hair style???
I appreciate the same look on myself as well. The things that concern me about putting the volumnous curls in my hair are the following:
1)staying power
2)avoiding damage (i.e. no heat)
3)no stickiness (my boyfriend likes to be able to run his hands through my hair)
(I have very straight hair that will not keep loose curls without work)
In order to combat these problems, I avoid all hairsprays (especially aquanet!) and use "Finesse" mouse, sponge rollers and eight hours.
After showering and letting my hair air dry, I seperate my hair into about 5-6 sections. I apply mouse to the end of the section and then roll the sponge roller up to the nape of my neck. Repeat this until all the hair is rolled. Now have a good night's sleep!
In the morning, after I unroll my hair, the curls are a little tighter than I would like, but they settle about an hour later and then I have volumnous, managable, loose curls.
The perks to this method are that I have spared my hair damage (by not heating it), the look stays all day until I shower in the evening, and my boyfriend can run his hands through my hair.
The downsides to this method are that sleeping in sponge rollers is not as comfortable as sleeping without and it takes more than one hour. So if you like to party late and then work early (off three or four hours sleep) this will not be enough time for the hair to set.
I hope this helps...
Happy curling!
